An automotive chassis dyno is a tool that is used to measure the Horsepower and Torque of a given vehicle at the tires. The most common uses for a chassis dyno are finding out the amount of power you are putting to the ground and tuning performance vehicles as well as everyday street going vehicles.
By putting your car on the Dyno we can tune the car for real world conditions. we can set the Air Fuel Ratios to optimise performance and also get the best fuel economy out of your vehicle. we can also optimise ignition timing all in the safety of our workshop. no other traffic or drivers to worry about.
Any dyno no matter what brand or who owns it should only be regarded as a tool. Different Dyno's will always read differently because of factors such as wear and tear on the dyno, the way the car is held down on the dyno, weather corrections and the operators way of using the dyno. The main purpose of a dyno is to compare given changes on a given day.
NO- the vehicle undergoes the same amount of stress as it would when you where driving on the road, in allot of ways its safer as we can hear if there are any abnormal noises becasue there are no other outside noises interfering.
The dyno can be used for other purposes then just horsepower readouts. as an example, strange noise that only occur at high speeds, we can simulate speeds up to 200KM/H on the dyno. Vibrations or Mis-fires can also be diagnosed and resolved.
